Barbie (2023) really had Barbie say “hey. I know the reason you hurt me is because I hurt you. I’m sorry I hurt you, because you didn’t deserve that. I know you are a better person than this, and you are fully capable of being that person. I can’t change the past, and I don’t think we can be in each other’s lives anymore without hurting each other, but i am sorry and I want you to be happy. I want you to find your identity and love yourself and live.” and then she realizes she’s also talking about herself.

she’s saying “I deserve to live. We both deserve to live.” it is one of the kindest things I have ever seen done to someone and to themselves in any piece of media ever

Right now on Twitter— oops, sorry. Right now on X— there are Greek-statue-avatar “modern women are degenerates; retvrn” accounts which are partnering with OnlyFans to signal-boost OF models and promote their streams. The models pay the accounts to RT them with “dunks” like “look how fatherless and decadent this is”, and the models see increased signups as a result.

And like… I’m in awe. This is it, this is the entire 21st century neatly encapsulated.

I think one of the most profound forms of love is “I’ll try that, for you. I may not like it, but I’ll try it.”

It’s a confused middle-aged man in a pottery class, whose daughter is helping him with his clay’s plasticity. It’s a kid scrunching up their brow while listening to their mom’s favorite music, trying to figure out why she likes it. It’s a girlfriend who says “Yes, I’ll go with you” and her girlfriend cheering and buying a second ticket for a con. It’s a friend half dragging another friend through an aquarium, the one being dragged laughing and calling out “Wait, wait, I know we’re here for the exhibit, but I haven’t been here! Slow down!”

It’s being willing to spend some of your time trying something new because it makes someone you love happy.
